Hello there,
I am dr.milan an infectious disease specialist answering your question,
You need to go for x-ray examination for better workup. Here there may be a ligament injury or may be a small bone fracture. It may accompany with some hematoma so it is causing the swelling and numbness. You really need to go for local examination and X-ray test than and than it can be ruleout what type of injury is there.
You can take simple painkiller for night period till you visit your orthopedic surgeon.
Hope i have given appropriate guidance to you.
