Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Irritable Bowel Syndrome Cause Burning In Stomach?
I have been told I probably have irritable Bowel syndrome by a Doctor. I have constipation sometimes, more often Diarrhea, urgency need to go, etc. Recently I have also had a burning sensation in my lower abdomen(below belly button and between hips) and I feel weak and often nauseous after going. The burning in stomach is strange. What do you think??
Looking at your description, your symptoms might be related to stomach hyper acidity or irritable bowel disease which may manifest as abdominal pain at times. I would advise you to take antiacidity medicine like pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs with antacids for 5 to 7 days, it doesn't help than I would advise you for Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or colonoscopy.
In addition to medicines I would advise you for certain lifestyle and dietary modifications like Watch your diet, have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and dietary fiber supplement. Avoid fried spicy and junk food. Try to avoid stress and anxiety by relaxation exercises and yoga or meditation you can take chlordiazepoxide group of drugs for IBS.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will gladly answer you.
Best wishes, Dr. B R Hudda
