Can Intake Of Antihistamines Or Fluorides Cause Plaque On Teeth?

I gave my daughter Benadryl a few times when she broke out in hives back when she was 2-4 years old.Now as her new teeth erupt, they are not as white as her baby teeth, they catch plaque more easily and have a few white spots. Is this from antihistamines, or flouride? She has excellent hygiene and has never had a cavity.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain antihistamines are not found to cause any significant disturbances of teeth, only dry mouth is found in some individuals but not any significant disturbances of teeth.

BUT excessive intake of fluoride by children below 8 years of age which is the time when permanent teeth are in developing and erupting phase.
Excessive intake of fluoride can lead to a cosmetic condition known as "FLUOROSIS" which can cause white spots and roughness of teeth and due to roughness more plaque gets adhered to teeth and at times causing staining of teeth.

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get her check-up done to rule out the exact cause white spots of plaque accumulation as few other conditions like ENAMEL HYPOPLASIA can also cause similar appearance.

An Aesthetic Dentist can very well improve the appearance by different treatment modalities like BLEACHING, AIR ABRASION TECHNIQUE, VEENERS, CAPS etc are available which will depend upon the causative factor for the white spots.

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
