Can I Restart The Medication?

I have been on (generic) Boniva for 5 years. I thought the doctor would take me off, so I stopped taking it for about 6 months now. Finally had my dr. appointment and he said I should remain on Boniva for 2 more years!Since I stopped for 6 months, can I restart again?

Hello there and thanks for writing to HCM

I read your query understand your concern regarding boniva (ibandronate)

A few other details like,
Your age and sex?
Any other medical or drug history?
Your body weight? etc would have helped

Coming to your query

yes,if you were my patient and you gave me the history above.i would suggest you can restart boniva (as per your doctor suggestion),even though you stopped for 6 months

For effective therapy, long term like 7-10years might be required for bone mass improvement

Although,I would also recommend you to do a renal function test, A serum calcium test and rule out any oesophageal or stomach conditions before starting boniva again.

i would also advise you to maintain a healthy body weight and have a balanced diet rich in calcium and minerals and also do renal function test and serum calcium tests every 4 to 6 months.
For effective therapy, long term like 7-10years might be required for bone mass improvement

hope i have clarified your query and hope it helps
Followup if needed.
Take care and good day
