Can I Drink Alcohol While Taking Fluconazol Tablets?

As with many people, I have white spots on my back. After seeing a doctor, I started taking fluconazol 200mg, 8 weeks now. It appears the the spread of the spots have stopped but not going away yet. The question I have is, what is the issues with drinking alcohol? I take the tablets on Sunday and would like to have a drink or two on Friday or Saturday... Could someone please explain this to me. Thanks so much.

Hi and welcome to HCM. Fluconazole is used to prevent and treat a variety of fungal and yeast infections. It belongs to a class of drugs called azole antifungals. It works by stopping the growth of certain types of fungus. Fluconazole may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). This drug can make you little dizzy, and this is the reason why you should limit intake of alcoholic beverages after taking this medication. Also avoid driving or using any machinery or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. All the best
