Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My GYN doctor stated that s strange, that my hymen is still intact after my delivery of twins. Six weeks after my delivery I went for my GYN checkup and she was perplexed that my hymen was still intact. I had a normal vaginal delivery. One twin was even breach birth... So why didn t my hymen break?
The hymen is a membranous tissue in the vagina which usually breaks at first intercourse and in some people it can get split due to exercises like horse riding and running. Breaking of hymen has no clinical significance and is not associated with any illnesses, rather it is an over rated cultural entity which is grossly misunderstood in many sections of the society.
Returning to your query, it is not that your hymen is totally intact if you have had delivery of twins by normal vaginal delivery. However there is a probability that the split ends of the hymen are close to each other in your case and give the appearance of an intact hymen. Some women have thick membranous hymen and after splitting the ends come close to each other giving the appearance of an intact hymen. This is the reason your hymen was seen to be intact which is not entirely true. Please do not worry.
