Can Heavy Bleeding During Periods Be Caused From A Displaced Mirena Coil?

I am 24, I have the mirena coil implant 5 years this july, Imy concerned it has moved, I regularly check it s in place and this even when I checked it felt different to before,( unusually long wire/odd shape) since November I ve had heavy periods where as previously I only ever spotted during menstrual cycle, I also have noticed thick white discharge (odorless ). Could I be at risk

Hi.

It would be best to speak to your doctor about it being displaced, but also speak to your doctor about the due date, as to when it has to be replaced. If its shelf life is 5 years or lesser, the sudden change in hormone levels can also result in a presentation similar to yours.
