Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was doing a big no no and cleaned my ear with a qtip and my son bumped my arm and it went in a little to far. There was a sharp pain for a moment and then it stopped. There was no blood or discharge of any kind but my hearing is affected for sure. I unfortunately do not have health insurance and can not out of pocket at this time. I do not have hearing in my right ear from an accident years back so I am wondering if there is a good chance I will get my hearing back to 100% on the ear I just damaged. Any Advice will be greatly appreciated. Bruce
Well sudden bumping can cause the q tip to go a bit too far in the ear and can cause the eardrum to perforate.
It can cause the hearing loss and needs immediate medical intervention..
So it is advisable to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and an Otoscopic examination of the ear can be done..
If the ear drum is perforated and the perforation is small then you can be advised a course of antibiotic eardrops and oral antibiotics to avoid infection and let the perforation heal..
But in case if the perforation is large then surgical repair is a must..
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
