Can Hair Loss Due To Female Pattern Baldness Grow Back Completely And Fall Out Again?

In 2009 (when working hard on my a-levels) , I noticed my hair was visibly thinning (on the top primarily but everywhere really) . There was no apparent excess shedding, just a gradual thinning. I then went to the doctor, who then prescribed me a course of Betacap and said to come back in 4 wekks to see if it was working. He said that if that did not work he would send me to a dermatologist who would then give me steriod injections directly into my scalp. Fortunately, though, the betacap worked and within six months my hair grew back. However, about 9 months later my stress came back and I started to loose hair again - all over, although more obviously on the top and sides but still much thinner than it used to be at the back. A while later I went, privately, to see a dermatologist specialist who, despite my growing growing back with betacap the first time, ignored that and told me I definately had Female Pattern baldness. I am still very stressed, in part because of this and feel my diagnosis here is incorrect. My question is therefore, simply, can hair loss due to female pattern baldness grow back completely in the early stages and then fall out again? My specialist simply thought, despite my GP noting down it had grown back completely the first time, that I was in denial, which I m not. Thank you.

Hi,
Till date there is no conclusive evidence on hair regrowth after any sort of treatment in male/female pattern baldness except for some treatment regimens involving minoxidil. Even that is very very minimal and can be picked up only by tests like trichoscan etc. However the treatment is purely aimed at preserving/conserving what is available currently such that you dont lose hair further. Secondly steroid injections or betamethasone is not prescribed for female pattern baldness. They are prescribed in conditions like alopecia areata. So I presume you got your diagnosis different. If your diagnosis was a female pattern baldness, then your dermatologist was 10% correct and you could not have grown new hair.
