Can Feces Decay In The Large Intestine Due To Constipation?
Background: 30 y.o. female with hx of IBS, chronic abdominal pain (past 7 years). Recently began a course of antibiotics (azithromycin) for bacterial URI. During the course of antibiotics I noticed that intestinal gas now has an extremely offensive, putrid odor: intolerable. Question: Is this related to the antibiotics? Also during this time suffering from constipation (no normal BM in one week). Is it possible that fecal matter is decaying inside large intestine?
It may be due to the production of hydrogen sulphide gas from the altered flora of intestine lead to altered smell of gas. Other possibilities are food intolerance or inflammatory bowel problems or malabsorption etcetera.
Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Use tablet Rifagut thrice a day for five days.
If symptoms not improved, then please consult your doctor so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
