Can Expired Penicillin VK 500MG Tablets Be Taken For Sore And Swollen Throat?

I have Penicillin VK 500MG tablets from when I had a couple of teeth removed. They expired 8/29/13. Lately, my throat has been sore for over a week and it is swollen. Could this help? I m 27, 5 7 and weight approximately 185lbs. No, I m not overweight, I lift weights in the gym. I haven t had a cold or flu in over 2 years, and aside from this, I m a very healthy person.

Hello,
Expiration date well passed will affect the potency of a drug. Antibiotics, in particular, need an effective dose for a proper period of time to treat an infection. Overuse or unnecessary use of antibiotics can build up a resistance. You may then get infections that are more difficult to treat and require harsher, heavy duty medications.
I suggest that you get a diagnosis. If you have a bacterial infection, then the correct antibiotic can be prescribed and a good result with successful treatment. Try not to take unnecessary antibiotics.
Thank you for your inquiry.
