Can Dosage Of Amiodarone Prescribed For High Blood Pressure Be Reduced?

I had one day a raised blood pressure and went to a hospital. The doctor stopped my heart and started it again and gave me an appointment with a specialist. My heartbeat had gone back to a regular beat and the specialist suggested that if I too Amiodarone I would not have worry about a re-occurrence. I have not had a re-ocurrence but I ve been taking it for years. I just read that it was only for serious heart problems which I didn t have. Can I quit taking it or can I reduce tasking it. I ve been taking one every other day. Brian McKellar

Hello,

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Amiodaron is used to keep the heart rhythm under control, and it is not specifically for blood pressure control.

I would suggest you to visit your cardiologist instead of altering the dose by yourself, only your cardiologist knows about the condition of your heart and what arrhythmia was there.

You should visit your cardilogist with all your record so that you can discuss about reducing the dose or stopping the med altogether.Stopping it by yourself is not advised.

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.
