hello dr.can you please help me what to do?my mother is 52 years old and is a diabetes.her problem is she is feeling numbness in her hands and feet.im worried alot.tell me wat to do.any home made therapies possible for this.please tell me soon
Numbness in hands and feet are a symptom of diabetes complication called neuropathy (nerve damage). This can be controlled by maintaining blood sugar levels close to normal. She must control her blood sugar levels now to prevent worsening of diabetes neuropathy. Kindly consult a good diabetologist for medications and monitor her blood sugar levels using a glucometer device. Having regular meals with controlled portions of food, being physically active and taking medications on time will ensure good control of Diabetes. Get her HbA1c test done to find out how good her blood sugar control is. If it is between 4-7 % it is good but if it is higher than 7% it means she needs to make changes in her diet and lifestyle to manage diabetes better. I hope I have answered your query. In case you need more guidance, you can always contact me. I will be glad to help you as I am a Certified Diabetes Educator.
