Can Deviation In The Medicine For 96 Years Old Causes Slurred Speech?

Just spoke to my 96 year old mom. Her speech was garbled. She is in an assisted living facility so I immediately contacted a nurse to check on her. The first nurse said her speech was slurred and by the time a second nurse got there, it was not. She is able to walk, as she did before, with a walker. I just spoke to my mom again and she sounds better but it sounds like her tongue is thick, with some words. She had a mini stroke in December. In addition, her blood pressure has been deviating from high to low and her physician has increased her medication. Should I be concerned? I m pretty sure I m not imagining things but the nurses say she seems okay. Thank you in advance for your advice:)

Welcome to hcm,
Short answer the slurred speech after a stroke usually recovers. But if is due to her age you can't expect the same
I recommend giving her speach therapy.
Blowing a balloon and chewing bubble gum helps in strengthening the muscles of mastication and improves speach.
Hope this explains
