Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Delayed Intake Of Nordette Cause Side Effects?
I took 4 Nordette pills at 3pm yesterday and was supposed to take the other 4 pills at 3am, but missed it. I m taking these as emergency contraception. It s already 10:30 am now; do I still take the second dose? Or do I reboot and start over again (meaning consider my late second dose a first dose for another set)? Thanks.
Emergency contraceptive pills are effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. Pill is most effective when taken immediately after unprotected intercourse. Efficacy declines as time elapses between sex and drug administration. But it is reasonably effective for up to 120 hours and perhaps longer. So you can take second dose now also. However, you should remember that it is more effective the sooner it is taken after unprotected sex. Its effectiveness varies from 52% and 94%. That means, it is not 100% effective, and pregnancy is possible even after its proper and timely use. I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thank
