Can Damaged Arteries Be Unblocked Through Medications ?

Respected Dr. Gopi,

My name is Khushi, I currently reside in Sydney, Australia.
The reason for this query is - I would like to find out if the damaged arteries can be unblocked through medications ?
My father has blockage in 3 arteries (50%, 70% and 80%), he has Diabetes, Cholesterol and Blood Pressure problems.
He was admitted in the hospital 2 weeks ago, got his angiography done, and by looking at all the results and tests, the doctors and cardiologists in Australia strictly recommends Bypass surgery.
However, we consulted 2 cardiologists - Dr.Ramesh Kapadia from Ahmedabad, Gujarat and Dr.Harinder Singh Bedi from Ludhiana, Punjab who reckons my father's heart is pumping normal and there is no need for surgery and the change in his lifestyle and diet including yoga and exercise would cure the coronary artery disease.
As a result, we are now in a dilemma as to what decision we should make.
He is a vegeterian and has been an Athelete throughout his life.
Few medications he's on at the moment - LIPITOR(cholesterol), Diabex, Diamicron, Coveram, Ikorel, Metoprolol..
If you require his reports and tests results, pics of his angiography, I'm more than happy to forward them on to you.
Your assistance, advise/suggestions in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Awaiting for your response.

Hi Khushi

I think Dr Gopi didnt got your question unfortunately, this is Dr Bhanu here and i will try to solve your query. After going through the medical details provided by you i would like to tell you that as your father has a TRIPLE VESSEL DISEASE along with diabetes, high cholesterol as well as Hypertension a BYPASS surgery is advisable as his heart function is good which will give his surgery an added advantage of good recovery.

Lifestyle changes, yoga, exercises these all can slow down the disease process they will not revert it back to normal neither does any medicine can.

With blockages of 70 and 80% its advisable to go for surgery before it becomes a total occlusion and cause a Heart attack. Carry on with the on going medicines till you decide.

I wish Him Good Health
