Can Coughing Cause Pain In Rib Cage?

I have had Pneumonia for 2 weeks now, been on 3 medications and still have a painful cough. I now also have a sharp pain under/on my right rib cage. Is this pain from coughing for the last month or could it be a more severe symptom of something else?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Coughing causing pain in the rib cage following treatment for Pneumonia is due to inflammation and irritation of pleura (tissue covering of lungs) called 'pleurasy'. This can happen after the treatment for pneumonia.
Kindly get a chest x-ray done to know weather there is any fluid collection or pleural thickening causing pleurasy.
Kindly consult Chest Physician with the report for proper clinical evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
