Can Cavity In The Teeth Heal Itself By Following Good Hygiene And Nutrition?

B H Hi, I recently had bitewing xrays done and was told that I have a cavity in between 2 teeth that needs to be filled. I would like a second opinion. I know these types of diagnoses are fairly subjective and vary from dentist to dentist, so what I m mainly looking to find out is: 1. Is my new dentist trying to make money on me asking to perform fillings that are not 100% necessary? 2. If not, and it is a good idea to fill the cavity now: For this particular cavity can I just wait and see if with good brushing and nutrition it will heal itself or at least not grow anymore? Thanks, Danny

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
As per your complain it seems that you have proximal caries and at times they are present over the walls that are in close contact with the adjacent tooth so they cannot be seen with naked eyes and x rays can only be a way and certain instruments can be used to rule them out..

In case if there is a decay, then although proper brushing and hygiene maintenance can help in reducing further decay, but the tooth that is already decayed will keep on progressing leading to deeper penetration of infection and causing nerve exposure and it will cause severe pain..

So the best way is to get it filled to prevent further spread of infection..

You can also send me x rays by uploading it here by going to my profile and asking a personalised question where I can explain you in detail by looking at the x ray..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
