Can Canker Sores On Vagina Suggest Herpes Infection?
I just went to the doctor yesterday with what looked like a canker sore near the opening of my vagina. She looked at it and said she was almost positive it was herpes and took a culture, she said it would take a week to get back the results, but put me on antivirals for herpes. I am still praying that it isn't herpes and could be something less serious. I noticed today that the size had gone down, but that I had quite a bit of brown discharge in my panties. Is this normal or could it be a sign or something else?

A genital ulcer brings into picture a few possibilities like Aphthous ulcers,STD's like herpes, syphilis etc. Classically an STD like herpes usually present with multiple lesions; there may be polycyclic erosions due to coalescing lesions as well as grouped discrete erosions; a doctor on clinical examination would be able to discern this type of classical presentation. However, this is classical presentation and a solitary ulcer does 'nt necessarily rule out herpes. Aphthous ulcers on the other hand, usually present with central necrosis and peripheral erythematous margin; they would either be solitary or few in number and are not usually grouped or form polycyclic lesions like herpetic erosions. Therefore, I would suggest you to wait for the test results. For the time being you may use an OTC antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin, twice daily.
