Can Body Rashes And Light Headedness Be Side Effects Of Having SMZ-TMPDS?
Hello! My husband was prescribed two SMZ-TMPDS 800-160 a day by his dermatologist on last Thursday. He began breaking out in a rash everywhere yesterday and he was experiencing swelling in his mouth last night. He just called me to say that when he got up to go to the restroom, he felt light-headed so he sat on the toilet, the next thing he remembered was getting up off of the floor. He literally passed out. Could this be a side effect from the meds?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
It seems that your husband has developed hypersensitivity reaction to SMZ-TMP(sulphamethoxazole trimethoprim), most likely Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS)-a hypersensitivity complex that affects the skin and the mucous membranes . It may be associated with hypotension and can lead to syncope (as happened to your husband) . He should immediately stop taking SMZ-TMP-DS .A short course of steroid orally will help. He should see his dermatologist in this regard.
