Can Blood Clots Be Detected On A CT Scan?

Hello Doctor, A close relative had a triple bypass and soon after he noticed he couldn t see clearly from his left eye. Within two weeks he almost can t see. Two weeks ago, he went to see an eye specialist who asked for a CT scan on the brain, which was done yesterday. Today results showed all OK, the specialist hasn t commented yet, but a doctor in hospital from two days ago we went to Cardiology, said it could be a blood clot. The image of his eye shows thickened nerve ? to the brain and blood around. Could a blood clot be seen on a CT scan? What do you suggest? The eye specialist organised an angiogram for tomorrow from a few days ago, but maybe only if the CT scan showed something?!

Hi,
A CT scan of brain will show if there is any probable area which is not getting enough blood supply in the brain. This will help your doctor in knowing if any stroke like event is responsible for the visual problems. Angiogram will give better information concerning blood flow in arteries of the brain.
