Can Bleeding Of Internal Hemorrhoids Post Colonoscopy Cause Anemia?
Recently I was in the hospital with influenza b and my hemoglobin was 11.5 which is my lowest in over 20 years. Usually it runs like 13 or so. a year ago I had a colonoscopy and i had findings of internal hemmoroids that frequenly bleed. Can this problen be causing my amenmia and my hemoglobin to be at 11.5. The bleeding has been going on now for about a year and I been living with it but now considering rectal surgery.
I am so sorry to hear about this anemia. Fro the information you have provided, this is the most likely cause of this anemia. Though there are other possible causes of anemia, this is the most likely cause in your case. I will suggest that you get fully evaluated and treated for this so as to prevent further drop in hemoglobin that may necessitate more aggressive and costly treatment options like transfusions. Iron tablets can help compensate for the continued bleeding but would not solve the problem definitively.
I hope this helps and provides some more information for you to act on. Feel free o ask for clarification an more information if need be. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Dr. Ditah, MD.
