Can Being Around A Puppy Which Has Hookworms And Roundworms Safe During Pregnancy?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Hello I am 22 weeks pregnant, and My husband and I just got a 8 week old puppy. We took him to the vet yesterday and she said that he tested positive for hookworms and roundworms. I am really scared that this can hurt me and the baby?? I dont know how to react to it. Im just worried. please help

Thanks for asking Healthcaremagic. Hookworms are one of the most common intestinal parasites of dogs. The eggs of these parasites are shed in the feces of infected animals and can end up in the environment, contaminating the ground where the animal defecated. People become infected when the hookworm larvae penetrate unprotected skin, especially when walking barefoot or sitting on contaminated soil or sand into the humans. This can result in a disease called cutaneous larva migrans (CLM), when the larvae migrate through the skin and cause inflammation. I would suggest to keep yourself away from your puupy till the time he is being treated for the same. I hope this helps. Thanks and regards.
