Can anyone bring out positives in being a diabetic?

I was just told i was a diabetic new years eve (happy new year!) type 2 after being really thirsty for about a month i got tested. I took it extremely hard and was emotionally crippled for about a week. i am 26 and always played sports and worked outside. the past two years i worked a swing shift and sat inside and let my diet go. However, since 2 weeks ago the doctor cut back my meds a lot and my sugar hasn t gone over 125 since the first week i found out and often drops low. the point is, is it fair to say that if a person diets, exercises, keeps stress as low as possible keeping the sugar down then one shouldn t dwell about the effects that are associated with diabetes? or is this being to optimistic. i think with all the questions raised about it we need some positive insight........my positives are the daily incentive, to eat right, and exercise which leads to looking good and feeling good

Exactly right, if you eat well, exercise good , try to cut down the extra fat deposits and this shall automatically brings the sugar under control and there by keeps the diabetic complications on the heart and other organs away. This is the way to fair better being diabetic. One should know Diabetes is not a disease if the blood sugar is under control.

Hi, my dad had CVA in May 2012 and found to have new-onset diabetes at that time too. He was put on amlodipine 5 mg and atenolol 50 mg for hypertension by which his diastolic BP remained in 78-80 range, pulse 65-80, but systolic BP continued in the range of 150-160 (left arm, sitting, home monitoring) with ankle edema (only when he was sitting on a chair, not in supine position). He was put on cilnidipine 20 mg and atenolol 50 mg since January 8, 2014 by advice of a medicine specialist, but now his systolic BP remains 155-180. Should he needs to be added with s-smlodipine 1.25 mg or amlodipine 2.5 mg to bring his SBP down? Diuretics are not advised as he was having cerebral salt wasting syndrome and was put on Florinef (fludrocortisone) 50 mcg daily for over a year and stopped when he was started with cilnidipine. You advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi...i am a diabetic at 36 and know that a combination of diet, medication and activity will help keep the complications at bay for sometime. My questions is if there are any specialized meals or food items which i should be eating to keep the sugar count within range? Anything that will bring the count down drastically and enable me to eat the solitary cake each day? :)

We have consulted a doctor and she has prescribed Tab Duphaston (10 mg) twice daily. Could you advise us of its purpose and if it has any side effects in long-term. We would really appreciate your advice on this.
