General & Family Physician Dr. Mohammed Tauseef's  Response
Hi Lubna, Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.
If Doctor's are saying it, you should be willing for a Kidney Transplant. Your Husband is suffering from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). A kidney transplant is an operation that places a healthy kidney in his body. The transplanted kidney takes over the work of the two kidneys that failed and he will no longer need dialysis.
During a transplant, the surgeon places the new kidney in the lower abdomen and connects the artery and vein of the new kidney to the artery and vein. Often, the new kidney will start making urine as soon as the blood starts flowing through it. But sometimes it takes a few weeks to start working. The transplanted kidney comes from donors who have already died. Few has to be gotten from a living family member. The wait for a new kidney can be long. Once the transplant is done, he will have to take drugs to keep his body from rejecting the new kidney for the rest of his life.

You can come down to India and Visit any of the Metropolitan cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata where the Kidney Transplant Facility will be able.

I wish him Good Health, Take Care.

My mother is around 64-65 years old. She has Sceleritis and early signs of Cataract. Besides these, she is a Diabetic (on the process of undergoing Dialysis) and a B.P. patient too. About a few months back, we came to know that both her kidneys have been affected and as per the Doctors back home in Imphal, is in its last stages. They have ruled out a transplant due to her age but I have read that it can be done successfully under expert guidance. Could you please suggest if it s safe for her to undergo a transplant at this stage, given her current state of health and age? If yes, we already have a close kin Donor. Also, I d like to know the approx.cost of the whole procedure (excluding Donor s costs). If you could kindly let us have your feedback accordingly on the pros and cons of it, it would enable us to take further action on the same.
