Can An Infant Contract Salmonella Infection After Being Licked By A Dog (pet) That Was In Garbage?
My dog got into the garbage (there had been a bacon wrapper and old eggs in it) while I was out. I cleaned up the mess but a couple hours later my dog licked my 5mo sons hand, I got sidetracked before I washed it off and he s teething so his hands are in his mouth! I didn t think about my dog getting into the garbage till after the fact! Can my baby get germs/sick? I m not sure how long any bad germs would stay in my dogs mouth for. And is there anything I can do to make sure my baby doesn t get sick??? How likely is salmonella?

The dog had garbage, in the mouth, then licked your 5 months son.
The dog will have enzymes in the mouth for clearing the germs, if they cross the barrier, the boy will have resistance.
If that is crossed when he has the infection you can have the treatment.
Or else you can give an antibiotic on doctors prescription for prevention.

Thanks for query.if your son possibly got salmonella enteric infection usually presents with loose stools and some times fever.if you son show any of those symptoms you can consult a doc.no need of preventive medicines in this case.keep children away from pets if possible .vaccinate your pet.regards
