Can An Additional Dosage Of Xanax For Sleeplessness A Cause For Concern?

I took a Xanax .25 tablet around 7 pm and was able to sleep until 9 pm. Now am awake again. Trouble going to sleep. Took a melatonin but still can t get back to sleep. Anxiety pops me up. Should I take Xanax again? This med frightens me because it is said to be habit forming and I don t want to over use it.

Hello,

Your concern is justified, Xanax is a habit-forming medication and should not be used for long term treatment, I do not prescribe it for over 3-4 weeks.

If you've not a long history of use taking another tablet for this one time should be alright, but wouldn't add another tablet whether it works or not and would avoid further use.

If anxiety is a chronic issue antidepressant medication is more appropriate for long term treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
