Can Alcohol Be Consumed While On SMZ-TMP DS?
How does SMZ-TMP DS interact with 1-2 cocktails for a male? My husband is finishing up a three-day dose of this drug. He takes the last one tomorrow morning. He would like to go to dinner tonight and have 1 or 2 old-fashioneds. His doctor says not a problem, the pharmacist said his wife had a margarita while on the drug and vomited for two hours. So, my husband is unsure what to do.

Would not recommend alcohol while on TMP-SMZ, could cause diarrhea and an upset stomach. The doctor said okay because technically not contraindicated, but my personal experience says to hold off on alcohol until you are off antibiotics
