Can Adenoid Problems Affect Speech?

My 2yr old son has delayed speech. He is otherwise perfectly normal in terms of fine and gross motor skills, interactive play with other children and family members, and understands complex questions/directions easily. Can enlarged adenoids be a possible culprit?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Generally, milestones appear a little late in boys than in girls.
Enlarged adenoids usually causes difficulty in breathing rather than delay in speech. It could affect pronunciation of certain words due to its enlargement.
So, nothing to be worried much about it.
In case you are really bothered, you can consult Speech Therapist and ENT Surgeon for proper evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
