Can A Pulled Muscle Cause Painful Ribs With Breathing Issues?

I ve had uncomfortable pain under my ribs on the left side for a week or so today it has gotten increasingly worse. I am having problems taking deep breath and am nauseated. I thought it may just be gas so I took gas ex with no relief...maybe a pulled muscle?
