Yes. Hypertension is only one of the risk factors of coronary artery disease or a stroke. The other risk factors include obesity, hyper cholesterolemia, diabetes, smoking, stress and anxiety, etc. Raised levels of cholesterol in the blood are the main factor responsible for thinning of arteries.
