Can A Faint Line On HPT Be Due To A Recent Abortion?
I had a surgical abortion 1 month ago. Immediately after the abortion all my pregnancy symptoms went away. I only bled lightly for about a week and a half. I have had unprotected sex several times since. I haven t gotten my period yet. I took a pregnancy test a few days ago and there was a very faint second line. I took another test today, the line was still faint but a tiny bit darker then the last (two different brands of test). Could I be pregnant already?
Firstly, you should get a pelvic/trans-vaginal sonogram to evaluate the status of the pelvic organs. This is essential to exclude any retained products. Secondly, the serum beta-hCG titre estimation is a better way to assess the hormone status. Return of ovulation can happen 2-3 weeks after an abortion, and since you have been having unprotected intercourse regularly, pregnancy is possible. However, it is early to be detected through HPT. The more likely occurrence is the regressing hormones that usually persist for 2-3 weeks after the abortion that is showing on the test.
