Can A Child Born Without A Coccyx Bone Walk Normally?

hi my daughter is 13months old she weighed 7lbs at birth and has a medical history of omphalocele, bladder extrophy, club feet, murmur in the heart, sacral agenesis and she was born without a coccyx bone. What i would like to know is if she would be able to walk without a coccyx bone.

Pediatrician, Surgery 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. Child can walk without a coccyx. X ray of the spine will tell us how many coccyx pieces are missing. Even if all the coccyx pieces are missing she can walk. Only the bone above the coccyx i.e sacrum is deficient then we expect a neurological problem in urinary bladder and passing stool.
Hope i have answered your question. Please feel free to send us query.

wishing your daughter good health.

Pediatrician, Surgery Dr. Antony Robert Charles's  Response
Dear Mum

Thanks for your query. The coccyx bone itself will not be a cause of concern and should not affect the walking. How is the sacral agenesis component evaluated ? does she have good bowel control ? Was a osteotomy (bone procedure) done along with the repair of the bladder exstrophy. If done, this may lead to a bit of waddling while walking.
