Hi,

The accurate diagnosis of malaria caused by plasmodium vivax is based on microscopic examination of a Giemsa-stained blood smear. However, to detect the hypnozoites (dormant) phase of the parasites in the liver "Rapid Diagnostic Tests” (RDTs) can be used. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is used to confirm the dormant parasites (hypnozoites) of plasmodium vivax after the diagnosis has been established by rapid diagnostic tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
