Can A Cortisone Steroid Injection Affect My Menstrual Cycle?

Hi, I had a cortisone steroid injection in my lumbar spine on 24th March this year. The issue that I was given the cortisone for has resolved. I was warned that the injection would affect my menstrual cycle following the injection, but my cycle is still being affected three months later.. I am spotting from ovulation onwards and my hormones feel out of kilter. I also have PCOS so anything that affects my hormones doesn t help. How long should I reasonably expect my periods to be affected?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Single shot of steroid can affect menses cycle for a period of month or so not beyond that. You must get evaluated for current status of PCOS to get your normal rhythm of menses back as per previous status.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
