My daughter is 274 pounds and is saying that she has shortness of breath and a little bit a tightness in her chest. Can a 15 year old girl have a heart attack? I took my daughter to the hospital and they listened to her heart and lungs and took X-Rays they said that everything was fine but that almost a month ago and she still has it why?
Hello, As for heart attack we have seen the trend that the age is really decreasing when one gets chest pain and diagnosed as heart attack. But for chest pain as such there are numerous reasons. It is not right to exclude heart attack by oneself seeing the less age criteria. But for lower age group the more common causes should be ruled out - trauma, viral infection which may not give fever, costochondritis, muscle sprain. For such a long time chest pain its most likely to be costochondritis which is observed that 10-30% of children and adolescent has it. It gets relieved by itself in few days to months. Hope this should ease you and hope for quick resolve.
Hello, For your first question regarding the possibility of a 15 year old having a heart attack, the answer is yes. But,the pathology is usually different. It is usually secondary to some abnormalities in the clotting mechanism. There is a increased tendency to clot formation.Such a clot can cause a block within the coronary arteries(blood vessels of heart) and cause a heart attack. Excess homocysteine in blood is one such condition. For your second question, though the definite answer could not be given, but the chances of it being a heart attack is almost nil.Other causes like aneamia need to be ruled out.Echocardiogram of the heart may be necessary to rule out other pathologies in the heart, especially the valvular diseases.Valvular disease of the heart do present with shortness of breath, palpitations, chest tightness etc.Certain septal defects of the heart can also present at this age.Musculoskeletal pain is another likely cause. Hope to have clarified.

Im a healthy 43 year old non smoker. I leaned forward to pick up a magazine and all of a sudden I felt a pain in my left shoulder. It also felt like a stabbing pain in my chest when I I tried to breathe. After 15 minutes it eased up so I didn t get the stabbing pain. Then I was fine. Could that be a heartattack?
My father died of a sudden heart attack in his home. I cannot get over this regret I am feeling ? I should have gotten him LIFE ALERT and he could have pressed it and been saved. He was 76 years old. He had several health problems including diabetes (controlled), hypertension (controlled), stage 4 kidney disease, and atrial fibrillation (controlled by digoxin). He had two strokes in the past, the last being 12 years ago, which paralyzed his left side, but he got some of it back and could walk with a cane. He also had a mild heart attack about 15 years ago, which was treated with balloon angioplasty. I wanted him to enjoy his final years, so I let him drive, and do his own things, etc. I am VERY REGRETFUL that I did not get him LIFE ALERT (or another similar product). I realize that sometimes when people have a heart attack, they do not know it, and cannot press the button, but I am still very regretful over this. I don t know how I am ever going to forgive myself for this. please help! Thank you everybody, you are very helpful. God Bless You all. Just for the record, he was found on the kitchen floor in the sitting position (on his bottom), with his knees bent, feet flat on the floor, and his head slumped down to his chest. One arm had an abrasion on it on the upper side of the forearm , as if he may have nicked it against the table or chair that he was near.
I am a 33 yr old female and I swear I have heart issues. I have had so many test done for my heart and everything has come back 100% normal. i have had countless number of EKG s I have a 48 heart montior I had a echo of my heart. my bp is a little high (bottom number in the low 80 s) my cholesterol total is 166. I do suffer from panic/anxiety and my Dr (bless his heart he is awesome) says all the things I feel is related to my panic not heart. Is there really anything else they could do to test my heart or did I pretty get everything? My doc said he wouldn t send me for a cardic cath cuz everything else was fine. Yes I do take meds to my panic attacks.
My friend has told me ( he is 82) that when he lies down on his right side his chest hurts. I noticed his shortness of breath two nights ago when we had to walk about 200 yards to a ball park. He is complaining of indigestion- 2 days now. He has had a stent for 10 years, otherwise is in good health. Last night he did not sleep well. He does not feel it is a heart problem as he saw his cardiologist 3 months ago and was dealing with just some high BP-= 130/90
Hi there. I am a 35 year old female 5'7 155 lbs with a 7 month old baby delivered by cesarean. I have had shortness of breath that worsens with physical exertion since the last month of my pregnancy but am otherwise in good health. The last 2 months it has been getting progressively worse to the point where I have to catch my breath sometimes in conversation. I am taking domperidone to increase my breastmilk production and have been for 2 months. I have been to the ER where I have had an ECG, ct scan, x-ray and bloodwork, as well as a pulmonary function test. All results were within normal ranges except my oxygen levels in my blood were low - however the test was taken peripherally, not through a central line. Also, my resting heart rate was 118, and when I did a stress test, within 2 minutes my heart rate was at 200. They are sending me for an echocardiogram next. Do you think this could be adult onset asthma or a reaction to domperidone or is it my heart?
ok my friend has trouble brething in his upper chest and has been throwing up blood for the past week. along with dyspnea and pain in his chest his throat has been so so swollen and his nodes on the front side of his neck have swollen as well. he has actually cried over the pain of the coughing fits. im worried for him cause i know its not normal. but to him im just his cute best friend with blonde hair and blue eyes who wants to be a doctor one day.:) hes very very fit 7-8% body fat hes a freaking tank. haha um upon going to the doctor they said they couldnt see down his throat soo whatever and sent hime home. he on multiple occaasions has said i cant breath and i think its very seriuos and so does he to an extent just doesnt think he can do anything about it. blunt force trauma with a rope occured last friday further proving somethgingss wrong! possibly an esophagal perforation or something like that?
I've had many CAT scans and heart moniters in the past to find out if there are any coronary issues. All thats been found is SVT. Sometimes it's better than others but on a more frequent basis my heart seems to pound pretty hard. The actual lub beat feels like it's going to pound out of my chest and I'm just sitting down. Many times this leads to panic and shortness of breath. I've been told there is nothing I can do about it. Does this mean I have a higher probability of heart failure? How can I control my heart pace? Are there any techniques other than breath control?
My pulmonologist said tests he did indicated need for echo stress test to rule out ischemic heart disease and referred me to a cardiology practice who scheduled the test. They even got approval from ins. co. I'm having symptoms and anxious (but...
