Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had to go back on Dilaudid 4mg. I have an extreme tolerance and I can take that up to three times a day. I can function normally after taking. I had to take one right now because my pain is too out of control. I m also having a breakdown and I need to take my Zyprexa. If the main concern is extra drowsiness I m not worried about that. Just was looking for major interactions. I don t remember my doctor stating to avoid taking them together.
Zyprexa (Olanzapine) is commonly prescribed to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression).
When taken along with opioid (narcotic) pain medications such as Dilaudid it can cause central nervous system depression which can lead to serious side effects including severe drowsiness, respiratory distress, coma, and even death.
Consult your treating doctor to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications.
Take care. Best regards.
