Can Zoloft Medication Cause Weight Gain?

I recently took myself off of 50 mg Zoloft, doing so gradually. I have gained 25 pounds in just a few months and am constantly tired and sluggish. I was hoping the Zoloft was the weight gain and no energy problem. I am also taking Levothyroxine, 50 mcg tablets. My doctor told me to take a whole pill one day and 1/2 pill the next day. I am gaining more weight and still have no energy. I m 67 years old and have always been pretty active. Could the thyroid medicine be causing my lack of energy ? I was on the Zoloft for about a year and have been on the thyroid meds for 2 years or more.

Hi & Welcome.
I have gone through the history given in your query and it seems to me that the recent weight gain appears to be to due to inadequate dose of Levothyroxine.

You need to increase the dose of Levothyroxine after consulting your treating physician and check its response after 4-6 weeks and see that the TSH level is maintained in the optimal range of 0.3 to 3 mIu/mL.

Hope this answers your query.
