Can UTI Cause Seizures?

Both my niece and I have been hospitalized for grand mal seizures (family history). During both hospitalizations, we were diagnosed with Urinary Tract Infections. Is this possible cause of seizures even though we have family history of seizures? She is 22, while I am 59. She is thin, while I am plump. Both of us use Lemectil.

Hello Welcome to HCM..
I thank you for posting your query here and I'm definitely going to help you out..

I being a surgeon, we encounter so many such cases day in and day out..
I read your question completely and have understood it well enough..

I will analyze all your points and provide necessary explanation..

1. Let me tell you, that urinary tract infection, Uti is the most common hospital acquired infection..
Please don't worry.. This is expected.
And also curable..

2. You and your niece suffering from seizures, I'm really sorry to hear this but..
There's absolutely no correlation between seizures and Uti..
Also, even the drugs that you take won't cause Uti..

3. So suggest you not to worry..

4. And, also let me tell you that women are at more risk for developing Uti than males due to anatomical and physiological reasons..

5. Please note these following things..
Hoping that you should have treated for Uti, I am telling few simple things how to avoid Uti

A. Drink lot of water, around 4 litre water is must each day..

B. Personal hygiene.

C. Do not store urine for long time.. Keep passing urine regularly.

Hope this helps you, in case you need any further assistance, please let me know..
Take care and God bless.
