The stent probably can't be taken out. When it is inserted into the artery it adheres to the artery wall, and that point is strengthened by the stent as the angioplasty weakened it due to expansion. If the stent isn't working I would think the next step would be a bypass. I have a Cypher stent too (for only about 4 months), so I don't like hearing this.

My tongue is swollen and got a sore throat and also very high blood pressure came on at same time, Just found out my kidneys need a stent to open an artery. Could this also be the reason for swollen tongue and sore mouth also have redness all around neck area of skin, like heavy blood flow color, no rashes, also swabbed negative viral infection. This has been on going now for almost 3 months, now dizzy and on 3 pills for high blood pressure until stent this week. My Doctor is not sure whats causing swollen and burning tongue issue. But I am wondering if my kidneys producing cemical to up the blood pressure could cause this?
My husband has had an angioplasty about one and half year back. He had only 60% block. He used to have leg pains befor e the angio plasty and it still persists. My questions are: (1)Regarding the life of a stent. How long a stent lasts?- my husband is only 55yeras; does a stent lasts in good condition atleast 25 years. What are the status of the people (and the stent)who underwent stent placements in 1986-90. (2) In my husband s case: As the leg pain still continues was th epain due to any other reason. - some thing to do with nervous system. He has from childhood - hand shakes when he holds straight like a glass of water.
My 57 year old cousin was admitted to the hospital last week with congestive heart failure and was told only 20 percent of his heart was functioning. Turns out he has all kinds of blockages all over his body. They had to put in four stents including one in the coronary artery before they could do bypass surgery today. He needs three bypasses but they were only able to do two. Before surgery, he was told that they wanted to do more stents this week as soon as he recovered from the bypass surgery. What kind of prognosis do you think my cousin has?
I am a 51 yr old female diabetic with controlled hypertension. A few months ago I had to go to the ER with sudden elevated blood pressure. In October I was admitted to the hospital with elevated heart enzyme levels and arm and mouth numbness. They did a heart cath and found 90% blockage in the widow maker artery and blockge in another. They did a double by pass heart surgery. About a week later I had an episode at home, returned to the hospital for another heart cath resulting in a stent. Last week I had congestive heart failure, was treated with diuertics and underwent another heart cath. It was found that I have had a heart attack and all grafts have occluded. They said they want to se medicine therapy until my heart is strong enough for possible bypass later. I am concerned that whatever caused my arteries to occlude will do so again. I know there must be hospitals that deal with these types of serious cases???
