General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Many heart patients take statins for long life ,which are good cholesterol reducing drugs .They lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

However, regularly i.e; once in 6 months get your liver enzymes checked as these drugs may increase liver enzymes and creatinine phosphokinase levels as a side effect.

While on statins if there is an increase in muscle pain or body temperature contact your doctor immediately.

Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
