Can Prednisone Be Taken For A Skin Rash?

Recently developed a systemic allergic reaction which has caused me to break out in a rash all over my body.Originally,I thought I had become to the ingredients in Just for Men beard dye;however,my doctor doesn t think this would cause a systemic reaction like I have.My doctor prescribed me Hydoxyzine HCL for my symptoms;unfortunately, this medication makes me very groggy.I have a previous prescription of prednisone dose pack(prior back surgery-only thing that helps when it flares up)-I guess my question is-can I stop taking the Hydoxyzine and start taking the prednisone?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of allergic reactions, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm B cream on it. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetrizine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
