Can Oxycodone And Ambien Be Taken Together?

I have severe chronic back pain. Two days ago at bedtime, I took 20 mg of oxycodone with my usual dose of 10 mg Ambien. I know this sounds stupid but I haven t been able to sleep through the night for quite some time. Well, I did sleep through the night but now I have been quite sedated the next day and a half. I can hardly type this note. I m afraid to go to bed , that I might not wake up.Is this an overdose or dangerous to take these two meds together? I m not very coherent and am making very many typos.

Hi,

It is not safe to take these two medications together. Taking oxycodone while on ambien that also causes central nervous system depression can cause extreme drowsiness, respiratory distress, coma, and even death.

So, this combination has a profound depressant effect on central nervous system. Your doctor may be able to prescribe effective alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment to safely use both medications.
