Can Mortin And Celebrex Be Taken Together For Knee Pain?

I was currently taking Motrin 800 mg, 1x daily for knee pain. Yesterday, the doctor prescribed Celebrex, 200 mg, 1x daily. Can the Motrin also be taken with that or will the Celebrex be enough. Also, can Percoset 5/325 be taken at night time for additional pain?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
MOTRIN 800 mg(ibuprofen) tablets is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID),prescribed for relief of pain in joints.
CELEBREX 200 mg (celecoxib) -a COX-2 selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-also indicated for relief of pain in joints e.g. in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis etc.
COX-2 inhibitors, such as celecoxib, and NSAIDs like ibuprofen are equally effective. They have a similar gastrointestinal risk as an NSAIDs.
One of these drugs will suffice.
There however is an increased risk of myocardial infarction with COX-2 inhibitors like celecoxib .Hence ibuprofen is preferred. In any case you should also take proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole or pantoprazole 20 mg daily along with .
Percoset 5/325 (oxycodone & acetaminophen )can be taken at night time for additional pain.
Oxycodone is an opioid pain medication.Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of oxycodone.
