General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Amitiza is composed of 'Lubiprostone', which is a medication used in the management of chronic idiopathic constipation.

Most common side effects noted with its use include nausea, diarrhoea, headache, abdominal distention, abdominal pain, flatulence, sinusitis, vomiting and faecal incontinence.

It is not reported to cause tightness in the chest as a side-effect. Mayalax is a herbal preparation composed of Cassia Angustifolia, Rhamnus Purshiani Cortex, Aloe Barbedenisis, Collinsonia Canadensis, Hydrastis. It is also indicated for use in acute and chronic constipation.

Mayalax can be used instead of Amitiza if your constipation is opioid-induced. Kindly follow the medication as prescribed by your doctor and do the necessary follow-up as advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
