Can Minocycline And Alka-Seltzer Be Taken Together?
I understand that Minocycline needs to be taken away from magnesium by 2 hours. My daughter just took an alka seltzer gold, not realizing it contains magnesium as an inactive ingredient. Because it is an inactive ingredient, it does not tell us how much magnesium the tablets contain. Can she take her minocycline, which is now due, or should she wait two hours? Thanks!

Minocycline and Alka-Seitzer drugs should not be taken together.
Alka-Seltzer is an antacid drug which contains citric acid, potassium bicarbonate, and sodium bicarbonate. It is primarily used for the symptomatic relief of indigestion and heartburn.
Taking Alka-Seitzer medicine together with antibiotic Minocycline may decrease the absorption of Minocycline thus decreasing its effectiveness of killing the bacteria.
Minocycline medicine is best taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. If she has already taken Alka-Seitzer drug, then she should wait for at least two hours thereafter she can take Minocycline medicine.
