Can Metronidazole And Methylprednisolone Be Taken Together?

I am currently on day 3 of metronidazole oral 500 mg every 12 hours for 7 days to treat bacterial vaginosis. I was seen in urgent care tonight for tmj pain and forgot to mention my prescription. I was prescribed Methylprednisolone 4 mg to help. Are these medications safe to take together and will it affect my coarse of treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Prednisolone and metronidazole combined in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Metronidazole may increase the level of prednisolone in the body by altering or blocking a specific enzyme. For a course of seven days with four days left there will not be much of an interaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shakeel Khan
