Can Meprate Intake Have Adverse Effect On Fetus?

Hello,
I was administered meprate for 5 days (10 mg 2 tabs a day), as I didnt get my periods for 4 months and my pregnancy test were negative at the time. I got my last period on June 20th. Then as we were trying to conceive, I kept trying home pregnancy tests, which came negative. On medical advice, I started taking meprate dosage again on 25th July. As I didnt get till now (August 3rd), I check using a home pregnancy test and it turned out to be positive. I am concerned, will there be an impact to fetus development due to the usage of meprate. Please Advice. Age: 29, Heigh: 5'5'', weight: 140 Lbs. I have a history of irregular periods.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Meprate is medroxyprogesterone which is a progesterone given for withdrawal bleeding.
It is a safe drug for both the mother and fetus, and is not known to cause any adverse effects on the foetus.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist and get a detailed anomaly ultrasound at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy to rule out any congenital anomalies in the fetus.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
