Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 67 yes old and is having high fever .I have given paracetamol 650 mg after 4 hrs but fever still remains around 101 to 102. He is diabetic and no patient. Is it advised to go for mental p (as in case of kids after if above 102 and gap of 8 hrs ) please guide ?
Noted the history about your Father having fever, taken Paracetamol 650 yet the fever persists, diabetic. Since the patient is diabetic, evidence of any infection should always be looked for or ruled out the following: Ask for blood tests, CBC and blood sugar in particular. It is better to asks for blood culture and sensitivity now. Meftal P can be given as it helps to reduce the fever. Just confirm that this contains plain Mefenemic acid alone. Cold sponging helps a lot. If the blood and urine reports are showing any evidence of infection then an additional course of an antibiotic will be needed. Symptomatic and supportive management also needed. Give him plenty of oral fluids and continued fever causes dehydration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
