Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking Xanax since Menopause 5 years ago. 1 mg a night. It only puts me to sleep which i am now dependent on to sleep. I wonder if Luvox would be a better choice for the obsessive thought patterns I experience in the evening only. But how do I ween off the Xanax? Or can I take them together?
Xanax is used for sleep induction and anxiety and you are right it won't work well for the obsessive thoughts.
It's not easy to get rid of Xanax, but it's always possible, we switch to a long-acting sleep pill like Diazepam and then decrease the dose every 2 weeks by one about 1 tenth to gradually taper and then stop it.
Regarding, its use with Luvox, they both can be used and are many times used together.
However, the use of Luvox and Xanax should only be done after specialist advice.
So I would advise you should see your doctor and discuss with them your problem they would assess you and would be able to prescribe you the best treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
